The Challenge: Manual Training Was Consuming Valuable Time

When Candyspace's People Team evaluated their learning and development approach, they uncovered a significant efficiency problem: delivering effective training across diverse agency roles was consuming days of work every month. With a small team managing L&D for the entire organisation, their manual methods simply weren't scalable.

The time investment was staggering, and the results didn't justify the effort.

"We probably spent at least three to four days a month planning and creating content," the People Team Lead explains. "And I'm not a content creator by any means—all of our content was PowerPoint slides." The team had to research topics extensively, attend external webinars, and then build presentations from scratch, only to find that their generic catalogue of 300 courses often didn't align with agency-specific needs.

Tracking was equally cumbersome. During live lunch-and-learn sessions, one person would present while another manually noted who attended. Once presentations were uploaded to Google Drive, there was zero visibility into who actually completed the training or what they learned. Compliance training sessions stretched to 45 minutes—time employees struggled to carve out of their busy workdays.

Even more frustrating, the main feedback they received was consistent: "Training took too long. So then it takes the fun out of it a little bit."

This resource-intensive cycle was preventing the People Team from focusing on strategic initiatives while failing to deliver the personalized, engaging learning experience their diverse workforce needed. Something had to change.
