Collingwood swapped Excel trackers, SharePoint folders and email chasers for one platform. Now every compliance course hits 100% completion across 205 colleagues.
Collingwood moved induction, compliance and development onto 5Mins in spring 2025. Here's where it stands today.

Figures from Collingwood's HR team.
Before 5Mins, Collingwood had no training platform. Content sat across SharePoint, Teams and email, and compliance ran on Excel.Collingwood used the in-built compliance courses as they were, added its own handbooks and sign-offs, and let automations do the chasing.
ComplianceCourses went out by email with no reminders, then were tracked and chased by hand.
InductionContact center starters spent around four weeks in classroom-led training.
ReportingSpotting who had missed or failed a course meant digging through spreadsheets.
EngagementOperational teams couldn't step away for 45 to 50 minutes at a time.
Laura Chappell, HR Director, Collingwood"Compliance training previously was very manual. It was done through Excel. The tracking of it was really manual, the writing of the content was really manual."

"The biggest difference is that learning feels more connected now. We've gone from having information in various different places, a lot of manual processes, to having one platform where all of our employees can learn, develop and access the information that they need."
The launch went smoothly because people saw the value straight away, and nobody felt the platform was imposed on them.
Maddie from 5Mins customer success joined nearly all of Collingwood's launch sessions, so managers, content creators and colleagues saw it working first hand.
Maddie's how-to videos were shared across the business, so people could remind themselves what to do at any time.
Shorter, quicker lessons won people over fast. Every colleague activated, and the leaderboard and vouchers became talking points.
Collingwood's requests, like richer flashcard editing, more images and extra formatting, were built after calls with the 5Mins team.
Laura Chappell, HR Director, Collingwood"It's not a system that we've just imposed on them. I see so many people around the business, if they've got five minutes' quiet time, they're on there."
Compliance came first. Now Collingwood uses 5Mins for wellbeing, appraisals and the next stage of its learning strategy.
Collingwood's mental health first aiders share short mental health awareness courses ahead of events. They're optional, and about 70 to 80% of colleagues still take them.
Colleagues already use 5Mins content to set objectives in appraisals and for succession planning. Leadership development and career pathways come next.
"Think about where your learning strategy needs to be in three or five years' time, and choose a platform that supports that. For us, that's 5Mins."

Interviewer: Could you introduce yourself and tell us about Collingwood?
Laura Chappell: I'm Laura Chappell, the HR Director for Collingwood. We're an insurance business with about 205 staff now, across the contact center, claims, underwriting, risk and compliance, and back office. So it's a really busy business, and a lot of support functions. I look after HR and learning and development. Ultimately, my role really is making sure people have got the right skills, support and opportunities to succeed in what we're asking them to do.
Interviewer: How was compliance training delivered and tracked before 5Mins.ai?
Laura Chappell: Compliance training previously was very manual. It was done through Excel, which I think, when we first joined 5Mins, they were very shocked at. The tracking of it was really manual, the writing of the content was really manual, and again it heavily relied on resource within the team.
One thing that we did find when we moved to 5Mins was that there was a lot of accredited training already there. So we were able to utilize that, and then add in things that were Collingwood specific that we needed, such as a handbook that somebody needed to sign or a process that they needed to agree to. But a lot of the content was already there, and it fit our business really, really well.
I think now HR and compliance together can spend time on different activities, rather than chasing round manual spreadsheets and making sure everyone's done their training. We can quickly run a report: 25 people have missed it, we're going to reassign you in two weeks' time, and that's it, we're done. So it's just so much more efficient for us, and like I say, we can use our time elsewhere now.
Interviewer: What made 5Mins.ai the right fit for Collingwood?
Laura Chappell: 5Mins, I think, was the right fit for us, and what stood out was how simple it was. It wasn't complicated in any way. Uploading videos was really simple. Creating our own content was simple.
I think for me personally, within my area, we love the fact that it brings induction, compliance and development together in one place, rather than it being three different silos, really.
The bite-sized learning works really well for us, especially for our operational teams, because time is tight. Spending 45 to 50 minutes on an e-learning exercise - operationally, we can't do it, and it's not adding any value to us. Whereas now it is adding value, because they can get on, they can learn, it's bite-sized, and they check their understanding at the end with the quizzes that we can add into them. It lands better that way.
The new AI functionality that we've been using, we can just turn our content around really quickly. We edit, we go backwards and forwards, but that's the beauty of it. And I suppose for us, we knew that the platform itself wasn't just going to solve an immediate problem. It was going to grow with us, and that's what we've found it's done.
Interviewer: How did the launch go across the business?
Laura Chappell: The launch went really smoothly. We spent time with managers, the content creators and the employees to make sure they're comfortable with the platform. We worked really, really closely with Maddie. She did so many demos for us. We brought her into nearly all of our sessions to do demos with the actual team, so they could see it working first hand. She shared all the videos with us, which we were then able to share with the wider business, so they could keep reminding themselves what it is they needed to do.
People picked it up really quickly. What helped us the most was that employees could see the benefit of it straight away. They went straight in and knew that the learning was quicker, they weren't spending too long on it. So I think for them to instantly see the value has engaged them really, really quickly.
And for us, it's not a system that we've just imposed on them. We proactively ask them to go out, and I see so many people around the business - if they've got five minutes' quiet time, they're on there. The amount of vouchers that I've been asked about: "Can we exchange our points?", "Where are we at on the leaderboard?" It's just really engaged everyone in their learning, which is what we need for their future development.
Interviewer: How are you and your trainers using 5Mins.ai to build your own content?
Laura Chappell: For building our own content, we've got our trainers and we've also got our risk and compliance team building their own content in there. So we've got quite a group of super users, which is working really well for us, and I'd definitely say it's one of our favorite features: being able to take our own policies, our procedures and training materials, and really quickly turn them into engaging learning content.
The AI tool does make it a lot faster. We go backwards and forwards - we don't like this, we'll tweak this, we'll change that - but it's been really simple and easy to do. I don't even know if I can put a number on it at the minute. We've built all of our e-learning, all of our compliance e-learning, and our induction training has now gone into it. I think there's easily a hundred, if not more, courses that we've built on it.
One thing I would really call out for us is that when we started to build our content, because it was brand new to us, of course there were some teething problems on our side while we got used to it. I know I've mentioned Maddie - she was really supportive in it. But what we were also able to do was raise features we thought might be more beneficial, and we were brought onto calls with the 5Mins team, and those features have been implemented. We knew from the beginning that was what we were told could happen, but when you start with a platform, you hope that continues, and for us it really has.
So even the flashcards now: we've got different ways of editing them, you can add more images into them, there's more formatting that can go into them. We've worked really closely with the 5Mins team, and it's kept it alive for us. Like I think I've mentioned previously, we always wanted the platform to develop with us, and that is exactly what is happening.
Interviewer: What do your compliance completion and pass rates look like today?
Laura Chappell: Since we've gone live, our completion and pass rates are at 100% for our compliance. And I think for us, what we love is there's now better visibility than we had previously. So we can see who's completed the training, who's struggling and where support might be needed. We can quickly identify any development areas, and we can then build our training on the back of that.
From a governance and compliance perspective, which is incredibly important, it's valuable to us because we've got clear evidence whenever it's required. And I know our activation rate for everyone - we've got 100%, so every employee is on it. 100% completion, 100% pass rate. Good place to be.
Interviewer: Where is the platform taking you next, and what would you tell another HR director?
Laura Chappell: For us, next on the platform: we've started with induction and compliance, but we know the opportunity is a lot bigger than that. So we're looking at how to use it to support our leadership development, our career pathways and the wider employee development.
I have actually spoken to another set of HR directors within the insurance industry about the platform, and I gave them a little mini demo on it. I think they may have reached out at some point, because what they liked - and this was the thing that I would promote the most - is the access to compliance training. It's there for them. You've got quick reports, you've got data that you can use, nothing's manual about it. So when HR directors are going to board meetings or exec meetings, or anything they need to do, the data is there for them to take. It helps us make decisions about where we need to spend our time next.
And I think for me, my biggest thing would be: think about where your learning strategy needs to be in three or five years' time, and choose a platform that supports that - which, for us, is 5Mins.
